The Rapid Metro Rail Project
The Rapid Metro rail project in Gurgaon highlights the crucial role MRT schemes can play in enabling the expansion of urban centres. Located close to Delhi’s airport, the light rail system is being constructed on an elevated viaduct along the centre of a new double carriage way. In addition to stations being constructed beside existing commercial centres along the route, new stations are being built in open areas of countryside in order to support residential schemes planned by the Haryana Urban Development Authority. Improved vehicle, rail and pedestrian links are being delivered concurrently by the Rapid Metro project in order to minimise the impact once all lanes of the highway are returned to public use.
